“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laiden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Mathew 11: 28 – 30.”

The late Bishop Richard P. Jackson departed his earthly life September 30, 2022 at the Candler Hospital after a short illness.

Other than his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sisters: Cora L. Jones, Daisey B. Jackson, Lottie Duhart, Ella M. Bryant and Evan M. Jackson.

Richard was born May 23, 1949 to the late Andrew and Hannah C. Jackson of Odum, Georgia.

Richard and Bertha Jackson were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 8, 1968. There were six children born to this union.

At a young age he attended Good Hope Holiness Church with his mom. Early in life he joined Church of God Written In Heaven under the leadership of the late Elder Scott in Jesup, Georgia. He later joined Spiritual Body Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Elder Jessie Jernigan. He also attended the Church of God the Bibleway, under the leadership of Elder Timothy VanBeverhoudt, Jr. He enjoyed visiting & fellowshipping with the different Church of God the Bibleway.

Richard loved the Lord. A faithful servant of the Lord. He served the Lord all of his earthy life. He loved to sing (even off beat). His favorite songs were, “Low You Cherry On, let me rise” I want to see Jesus when I rise; and “Lordy I’m glad to be in the number one more time, just a one more time.” His favorite topic to preach on was “Hold the Baby”, “No Fault”, and “You Got to Have Full Coverage.”

Richard was educated in the Wayne County Public School System, where he ran track; he said “he was the fastest runner.” He was employed by Jesup Milling Company for 27 years, he also worked for the County for 4-years.

He leaves to mourn his passing a very devoted wife Bertha Jackson of 54 years; three daughters: Patsy (Jerry Epps) Jackson, Lottie (Reginald) Hunter, Cynthia (Bernard) Pickeet all of Jesup, GA; three sons: Terry (Danielle) Jackson, Gary “Bo” (Lorriane) Jackson, Richard (Vickie) Jackson all of Jesup, GA; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren.

He also leaves one brother, Burrough (Phyllis) Jackson of Odum, GA; seven brothers-in-law: James Bryant of Screven, GA; Jerry (Alberta) Bryant, of Jesup, GA; Hubert Bryant, Albert Jay (Barbara) Bryant, all of Bristol, GA; Ronald (Carol) Bryant of K’Ville, GA, Donald (Helen) Bryant of Baxley, GA, and Carter (Roseanna) Bryant of Bristol, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many family and close friends.

One special person he treated as a son, Rick Palmer.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the New Bethel Life Changing Ministries, (521 Brown St, Screven, GA 31560), with Pastor Gavin McCullough officiating.

Bishop Jackson will lie in repose 1- hour prior to funeral time. 

Public viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Community Chapel Funeral Home of Jesup.

Masks are required as for attendees.
