James R. Williams was born on June 2, 1933, and passed away on July 12, 2023. Mr. Williams was born in South Carolina to the late Elbert Day and Martha Day. He attended Salem Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey but later moved to Boston, Massachusetts and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
Deacon Williams, graduated from Crescent City High School in Crescent City, Florida. He was a loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
After graduating high school, Mr. Williams lived in several states which includes, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Georgia. Mr. Williams was employed as a Factory Worker in Boston, Massachusetts in 1968 before changing careers working as the Highest-Ranking Court House as a Security Guard for the Boston Courthouse System until retiring years later. He also served in a specific security capacity where he was given high-level access. During this season of his life, he met his wife Regina Williams in the late 1970s.
Deacon Williams was a contributing member to the Wayne County Democratic Party, Wayne County Branch of the NAACP, and Wayne Empowerment Association. He was a long serving deacon at Bennett Union Baptist Church and a founding deacon of Kingdom Builders Ministries where he faithfully attended and contributed as a trustee on the finance board. Whenever and wherever his health would permit, he remained faithful and purpose driven in utmost service to his family, church, and community.
James passed away on July 12, 2023, peacefully at his residence. He was preceded in death by both parents; Elbert Day, and Martha Day, oldest son; James R Williams Jr, Houston Texas, brothers; Johnny Day, Jesup, Georgia, Roosevelt Day, Trenton, New Jersey, and Robert Day, Trenton, New Jersey. Sisters; Sara Day, Jesup, Georgia and Annie Day, Trenton, New Jersey.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Regina Williams (wife), Jesup, Georgia, Jeffrey Williams (son), Houston, Texas, Pamela Williams (daughter), Houston Texas, Willie (Michelle) Draham (son), Brunswick, Georgia, Myra Bryan (daughter) Smithville, North Carolina, brothers; Roy Day, Detroit, Michigan, Thomas Day, Trenton, New Jersey, and Joe (Margaret) Day of Pooler, Georgia. Deacon Williams has 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Community Chapel Funeral Home of Jesup chapel (2524 S US 341, Jesup, GA 31546) with Pastor Dayln Dunn officiating.
Mr. Williams will lie in state an hour prior to service time.
Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Community Chapel Funeral Home of Jesup (2524 S US 341, Jesup, GA 31546).
