Mr. Freddie L. Smith

Freddie “Butch” L. Smith was born on April 9, 1950 to the late Arthur Smith and Mamie L. Johnson Smith. He received his education at Wayne County Training School. He was joined in Holy Matrimony on April 12, 2012 to Rebacca I. Coney. His work experience consisted of logging and from there he moved on to road construction, which he retired from in 2009. He loved fishing and spending time with family and friends. There was never a dull moment with him and whatever was on his mind always came out of his mouth (lol).

Butch passed away on September 1,2022 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Georgia after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Otha Smith and Elijah Jones, 1 sister, Emma Lois Merritt, and 1 son, Freddie Smith, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory: his wife, Rebacca Coney Smith, Jesup, GA.  His children: Diane Smith, Tampa, FL, Curtis (Becky) Jones, Blackshear, GA, James (Felecia) Smith, Arden Hills, MN, Regina Godwin, Orlando, FL, Darrell (Jacqueline) Jones and Charles Jones both of Waycross, GA. Children he raised as his own: Noria Coney, Cornelius Tomlin, Aazyria Coney, all of St. Mary’s, GA, His brothers and sisters: Reggie (Sheba) Smith, Tampa, FL, Tommy Smith, Angela (Robert) Johnson, Connie (Larry) Jackson, all of Jesup, GA, Tony Shaw, Valdosta, GA and Tonya Mason, Atlanta , GA. His grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special friend, Leonard Simmons. All whom will miss him dearly.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Emory Chapel United Methodist Church (311 North Hickory Street Jesup, GA 31545) with Rev. Alonso Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Odum City Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2022 at the Community Chapel Funeral Home of Jesup.

Mask are required for attendees.
